For all of you struggling in reception points and not only!
In our work, we saw the problem that volunteers and coordinators faced regarding sharing information with new arrivals. We defined the problem, its causes and its impact and came up with a project/ structure that would improve the situation.
As you can see in the picture attached, we identified many causes, such as information changing constantly, not updating the volunteers, language barrier, the concentration of information, the government making the decisions slow, fake information online, no one standard for reception points (all work differently), etc..
To combat the problem of bad system of sharing information with new arrivals we came up with the following:
First of to create a code of conduct and guide of preparation for volunteers, which will clarify their tasks, duties and responsibilities and provide a brief description of the work and what to expect. This will be given to any new volunteers.
Information sheet and information about essential services for newcomers
To create a coordination system according to the needs, which will help the refugees to be better informed
To create a system of peer-to-peer supervision
To have the support of the press
To provide language courses for volunteers and refugees,
To share information on social media, and have the accounts in the reception centers, where the people arrive
To provide short, regular trainings for volunteers, including the updates in information, to have the information available digitally, for those who could not attend.
