Learn how to make your own education escape room with us on a topic of active citizenship and not only. The tutorials developed with the support of the Erasmus + Programme of the European Union.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

“Secret Code for Active Citizenship” is a project created by NGO members of 4 countries with the main moto “Get Active into Citizenship” in June 2019.”Secret Code for Active Citizenship” was born from the need of the consortium towards the increasing importance to train youth and youth workers to work on active citizenship in a different and innovative way, through Educational Escape Rooms, in order to promote their motivation and empowerment. The project lasts for 26 months and contains innovation.

The project will cover Poland, Sweden, Portugal and Romania. Having good geographic coverage, we hope, in the future, to enlarge its implementation to other countries. More than inspirational solutions, we want to be able to tackle some of society’s pressing challenges, pushing Europe to the forefront of innovation.

We want youth to become the next “change makers” of their local/global communities, meaning active citizens that have, not only, the skills and capacity to engage, as well as a sense of self-worth, purpose, awareness and social responsibility, creating a European Network. Together with youth workers aware and skilful for addressing youth needs and partners empowered with a cross-sectorial knowledge and a European strong network.

What are our key objectives?

  • promote the exchange of good practices among NGOs and other local entities;
  • create an innovative Change Makers Training Experience and mobile escape rooms kits, addressing active citizenship in youth;
  • increase the sense of initiative and entrepreneurship in youth at a local/global level;
  • foster active participation and active citizenship in society;
  • contribute to the sense of belonging as European Citizens and motivate participants to learn more about the EU, creating a European Network;
  • invest in the capacity building of youth workers promoting high-quality work and innovative methods of reaching out to youth using escape rooms.

WHAT WE DO

This project was born from the need of the consortium towards the increasing importance to train youth and youth workers to work on active citizenship in a different and innovative way, through Educational Escape Rooms, in order to promote their motivation and empowerment. For this we gathered different institutions (4 NGOs) with different experiences from 4 countries (PL, PT, SE and RO) to exchange good practices, and together create a new concept to work on active citizenship through Escape Rooms, strengthening cross-cooperation and a multidisciplinary approach, and, consequently, improving the quality of youth work in each organisation.

How we will do that

We plan to create video tutorials and portable escape rooms kits on creating/using/building the escape rooms on active citizenship. After, we will develop a Training Experience “Change Makers Academy” that applies this tool and much more in the promotion of Active Citizenship with local youth.

We will address subjects that we consider crucial in “life” as Human Rights, local and EU active participation, intercultural dialogue and social entrepreneurship. Simultaneous, transnational and local activities will occur as pilot tests of the innovative material. We want youth to become the next “change makers” of their local/global communities, meaning active citizens that have, not only, the skills and capacity to engage, as well as a sense of self-worth, purpose, awareness and social responsibility, creating a European Network.What’s more, we want to be able to tackle some of society’s pressing challenges, pushing Europe to the forefront of innovation.

After developing the intellectual outputs, we will do dissemination work. It will start among youth, youth workers, educators ect. so the results can be transferred and last for decades and be used in daily life.

Let's go a little back to the past, to when our Romanian Partner @Asociatia Un Strop de Fericire implemented the Local Pilot tests of the Change Makers Academy Program. 🧐

We held a workshop about cyberbullying in a local school in Ploiesti, Romania 🇷🇴

We went a long way from idea, through testing, to implementation and creation of our Change Makers Academy Program. 🌎👥

We would like to share with you, one of these tests, an "Active Citizenship Bootcamp: From local to European!" that was held in Cascais, Portugal 🇵🇹 On the 14th, 15th and 16th of January 2022. It was a very rewarding event where our young people shared and discussed ideas for the implementation of local projects. We hope to see them in reality very soon.

In the meantime, if you have an idea for a project, don't hold it in your drawer forever, share it with the world! 🌎

We are always happy to see you at our events, and very glad many people attended our last open event to play educational escape boxes! 🍀🎲
Together, we learned why Escape Rooms and Escape Boxes are effective tools to work with youth, had an occasion to play several boxes, and saw the outcomes of the Secret Code for Active Citizenship and Unbox Inclusion projects, which you can check out here 👉 eduescape.org/results/
Big thank you to everyone present, and see you soon! 🙌
